Police reshuffle: Andrii Rubel appointed as head of the Kyiv Region Police
On May 12, 2026, the head of the National Police of Ukraine, Ivan Vyhivskyi, announced the appointment of Andrii Rubel to the position of head of the Kyiv Region Police. The appointment was officially presented to the command staff in the presence of the head of the Kyiv Regional Military Administration, Mykola Kalashnyk, as reported by the Kyiv Regional Military Administration.
According to Censor.NET, a media outlet known for its in-depth coverage of security and political affairs, Rubel stated at the ceremony: "Together with the team, we will continue to work for the safety of the region's residents, respond to all wartime challenges, and ensure public order." Rubel, who until recently served as the head of the Strategic Investigations Department at the National Police (a position he was removed from on April 28, according to SUSPILNE NEWS), replaces Anatolii Shchadilo.
In a report by Ukraina Online, which covers news and politics, it was noted that the appointment comes against a backdrop of widespread personnel changes, including the resignation of the head of the Patrol Police, Zhukov, following security incidents in the capital. The Kyiv Regional Military Administration emphasized that the main tasks for the new commander will be dealing with war crimes, thwarting sabotage activities, and providing maximum support to civilians under martial law.
Additional reports from Lachen writes and Times of Ukraine confirmed the appointment, while emphasizing the immediate need for security stability in the Kyiv region, which is defined as one of the most sensitive and responsible areas in the country at the present time.
