A dramatic incident took place in the city of Gaziantep, Turkey, when a taxi driver named Ramazan Yıldırım managed to neutralize an armed attacker who tried to take him hostage. According to a report by TRT Haber, the suspect, identified as Semih Çalışkan, opened fire in the city and then entered the taxi. During the kidnapping attempt, Yıldırım demonstrated resourcefulness and heroism, managed to overpower the attacker, and assisted police forces in arresting him. The suspect was transferred to court and officially detained.
Haber Gündem notes that the incident involved a prolonged exchange of fire between the gunman and police forces before his final arrest. In new footage that has been released, the high tension surrounding the event is visible, as Yıldırım acted under an immediate threat to his life.
Speaking to the media, Yıldırım described the moments of terror and emphasized his sense of duty. According to him as reported by İhlas Haber Ajansı, "My only consolation is that no harm came to our police officers." Yıldırım repeated this message in an interview with Haber Gündem as well, where he noted that the fact that the officers were not harmed is "enough for him."
