Significant Escalation on the Northern Border: Heavy Exchange of Fire and Death of an IDF Soldier
Over the past day, a severe escalation has been reported on the northern front. Al Jazeera reports that the IDF confirmed the death of a soldier as a result of a UAV explosion launched by Hezbollah, which brings the death toll among security forces to 18 since the beginning of March. According to War Media - News Coverage, the UAVs were not detected by defense systems, which prevented the soldier from having time to react and take cover.
Hezbollah has significantly increased its use of suicide UAVs against Israeli targets. Al Jazeera cites Israel's Channel 12, which defines the UAVs as "Hezbollah's central weapon" and admits to a lack of an operational solution to the threat. Reports from the field, as published by Quds News Network, include attacks on D9 engineering vehicles in Naqoura, bulldozers in Bint Jbeil, and Merkava tanks in the Bayada and Rshaf areas.
At the same time, Al Mayadeen reports that Hezbollah attacked an Israeli force that had fortified itself inside a house in Baydar al-Faqa'ani, and subsequently attacked the rescue force that arrived at the scene, forcing the army to evacuate casualties under a "smoke screen and heavy fire." Al Jazeera confirmed a direct hit on a Merkava tank using a UAV.
Sources identified with the Axis of Resistance, including War Media, distributed a series of videos documenting hits on engineering vehicles, company commander tanks, and surveillance cameras along the border. Simultaneously, reports were made of retaliatory attacks by the Israeli Air Force and artillery in Southern Lebanon, including the destruction of a 120-meter-long tunnel using 20 tons of explosives, as reported by Al Jazeera.
