[56122] IDF Reform and Lukashenko’s Statements: Today’s News Summary in Ukraine
Reports on comprehensive reform in the Ukrainian army alongside a controversial statement by Alexander Lukashenko regarding ground operations.
Extensive reform in the Ukrainian army
According to reports in Українська правда, the Ukrainian administration, in cooperation with the General Staff and President Zelensky, is promoting significant reform in military service expected to take shape by the end of May. According to Оперативний ЗСУ, the plan includes raising salaries for rear-echelon soldiers to 30,000 hryvnias, and a new combat compensation system (10/20/40 thousand hryvnias per day), which could bring combat soldiers' salaries to 250,000-400,000 hryvnias per month. At the same time, the implementation of three types of contracts with clear service conditions and discharge pathways is planned, as noted in ТСН.
Lukashenko and the "ground operation" issue
Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko sparked a wave of reactions after calling on his army to prepare for a "ground operation" in the event of war. As reported in Труха⚡️Україна, Lukashenko claimed in the context of wars in the Middle East that "without a ground operation, it is impossible to win." While most Ukrainian channels presented this as a direct threat, the Центр протидії дезінформації (Center for Countering Disinformation) assessed that this is not a preparation for an attack, but rather Lukashenko's tactical analysis regarding lessons from international conflicts, and calls not to panic.
Surge in fuel prices
Another arena occupying the Ukrainian public is the rise in fuel prices. Труха⚡️Україна reports that at the "Ukrnafta" chain, the price of 95-octane gasoline jumped by 5 hryvnias per liter this past weekend. At the same time, experts such as Serhiy Kuyun, quoted in Батальйон «Монако», claim that the renewal of fuel imports from Hungary and Slovakia is not expected to lead to a price drop in the domestic market at this stage.
