[55217] Netanyahu: Israel is losing the public diplomacy battle on social media
Netanyahu on the challenges of public diplomacy; sharp criticism on social media
During a statement published on Disclose.tv, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu admitted that Israel is facing significant difficulties in the media and public diplomacy arena. According to Netanyahu, "Israel is under siege on the media front, on the propaganda front, and we have not acted well in the propaganda war".
On the other hand, the Telegram channel DD Geopolitics, which is identified with a sharp critical stance toward Israel and refers to it as a "terrorist entity," presented a completely opposite narrative. The channel argued that the decline in support for Israel, with an emphasis on the United States, is not related to the "geometric rise" of social networks as Netanyahu claimed, but stems directly from the military actions on the ground.
In its report, DD Geopolitics rejected Netanyahu's claims that Israel took maximum precautions for the civilian population, including sending text messages and warning phone calls. The channel accused the Prime Minister of using public diplomacy to cover up what they defined as "war crimes."
While Netanyahu emphasized the importance of freedom of speech and stated that he "does not believe in censorship" of social media despite the reputational damage caused, critics at DD Geopolitics argue that this is an attempt by Netanyahu to shirk responsibility for the consequences of the war on global public opinion.
