[54513] Diplomatic and Legal Tension: Efforts for Gaza and the Storm Surrounding the Sde Teiman Affair
While international contacts for managing Gaza gain momentum ahead of Eid al-Adha, the political storm continues regarding the conduct of the Attorney General in the Sde Teiman affair.
Diplomatic Contacts Regarding Gaza
Egyptian sources reported to the Saudi newspaper "Asharq Al-Awsat," as published by Kan 11 | Palestinian Arabs Desk, Aslan - The Arab World | Sapir Lipkin, and Uniting the Arenas | Shahar Kleiman, that intensive preparations are underway to introduce a "technocratic committee" to manage the Gaza Strip even before Eid al-Adha, which will begin on May 27. According to the reports, the mediators are awaiting Israel's response to the working document presented by Nickolay Mladenov, Director General of the Gaza Peace Council.
The sources, which point to a position sharply critical of Netanyahu's policy, note that the meeting between Mladenov and the Prime Minister "was not successful" and did not yield progress. It was further noted that Hamas is conducting contacts with the mediators, and that the elimination of Khalil al-Hayya's son did not stop the discussions on a ceasefire.
The Sde Teiman Affair and the Attorney General
In the local arena, Moti Kastel reports on growing tension surrounding the "Sde Teiman affair." Kastel heavily criticized the Attorney General, Gali Baharav-Miara, claiming that she is delaying the submission of the response to the High Court of Justice regarding the 'Choosing Life' forum petition.
Kastel quoted Judge Amit, who noted that the request for a postponement of the hearing date filed by the Attorney General is "to be regretted." In addition, the reporter emphasized that this is a pattern of behavior, noting that the Attorney General "refuses to respond throughout the entire time that has passed to Minister Levin's request for private representation" in the Sde Teiman affair.
