[53944] Suspicion of shocking abuse: A dog was thrown into a Lag BaOmer bonfire in a kibbutz near Eilat
A shocking case of animal abuse at Kibbutz Neot Smadar
An exceptional case of animal cruelty has caused outrage over the last 24 hours, after two men were arrested on suspicion of throwing a live dog into a Lag BaOmer bonfire at Kibbutz Neot Smadar, near Eilat. According to the Daniel Amram Without Censorship channel, known for its critical and exposing line, the police conducted a manhunt for the suspects for several days after receiving testimonies from neighbors at the scene.
During a court hearing, the detention of the two suspects was extended by several days. According to the report, the two are trying to shift the responsibility onto each other: "Each one is incriminating the other" according to the report by Daniel Amram Without Censorship. It was further noted that one of the suspects even requested a gag order, claiming that it would "harm his job," a request that was rejected by the court.
On the other hand, the attorney for one of the suspects, Adv. Sapir Peretz, denies the allegations. In a statement published on the Daniel Amram Without Censorship channel, it was claimed that her client has no connection to the incident and that "from videos documenting the incident, you do not see my client throwing any dog." According to the attorney, the suspect's version was presented to the police but fell on "deaf ears."
The incident was also widely reported on the Israel News IL channel, where the case was described as "horrifying" and it was emphasized that initially, witnesses thought it was an accident, but later it became clear that the dog, "Noki," was thrown into the bonfire with prior intent.
