A wave of medical concern is spreading following an unusual outbreak of the Hantavirus, linked to the expedition ship MV Hondius. According to Aviation News ✈️, the affair began on April 1st, when the ship departed from Argentina to Antarctica. Following the death of a passenger on April 11th, it became clear that this involved a virus considered rare, which does not typically pass between humans.

The incident escalated when the wife of the deceased passenger flew on an Airlink flight from St. Helena to Johannesburg, where she passed away after developing symptoms. Aviation News ✈️ reports that following the case, the World Health Organization (WHO) began tracking all 88 flight passengers. Regional health authorities note that the ship encountered difficulties in docking, as countries such as Cape Verde and the Canary Islands refused to allow it to dock due to fear of contagion.
