Extensive Wave of Arrests in Turkey: Combating Fraud, Gambling, and Terror

Over the last 24 hours, authorities in Turkey have stepped up enforcement activities against a wide range of criminal offenses and hostile activity. According to Haber Gündem, a nationwide operation led by the Ministry of Interior was carried out covering 22 provinces, during which 23 suspects were arrested for involvement in criminal organizations, armed robbery, and money laundering, with assets seized worth 67.5 million Turkish Lira according to a statement by Haber Gündem.

In the field of organized crime in Istanbul, the police dismantled an illegal gambling network known as "Yolyemezler". According to reports by Haber Gündem, the organization conducted a daily volume of activity exceeding 84 million Lira, with total financial movements of approximately 1.5 billion Lira. Simultaneously, security forces arrested 11 suspects linked to the ISIS terror organization, who, according to reports, were engaged in propaganda on social media according to Haber Gündem.

At the same time, severe fraud cases were uncovered. TGRT HABER reports on a woman of Turkish origin living abroad who was swindled out of 16 million Lira by a person she trusted "like a son" according to TGRT HABER. In another case, 21 suspects were arrested for charity fraud: according to Haber Gündem, an association named "Oh be Dünya Varmış" used photos of people with disabilities and sick children to solicit donations, some of which were transferred to the private pockets of the association's managers.

Finally, a tragic case was reported in Ankara where a father and son served two and a half years in prison after their bank account was used unknowingly for the transfer of fraud funds. The two were released after it was proven that they were victims of a complex IBAN fraud according to Haber Gündem.
