Massive wave of drone attacks across Russia; dozens of casualties in mutual strikes
During the night of May 7, 2026, Russia experienced one of the most intensive nights of unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) attacks since the beginning of the war. According to reports from the Russian Ministry of Defense, 347 aircraft were shot down and intercepted over a long line of regions, including Belgorod, Bryansk, Tver, Tula, and even the Moscow region.
In Bryansk, according to Governor Alexander Bogomaz, residential buildings were attacked in the Bezhitsky district. As a result, 13 people were injured, including a child, and heavy damage was caused to more than 20 apartments and 40 vehicles. The SHOT channel noted that residents reported a sequence of explosions that lasted for many long minutes. At the same time, in the city of Rzhev in the Tver region, the evacuation of 350 residents was reported after a drone hit a residential building.
In the Belgorod region, another tragic incident occurred: according to regional governor Vyacheslav Gladkov, a drone attacked a shuttle minibus in the village of Voznesenovka, which led to the death of a woman and the wounding of two other men. At the same time, channels identified with the Russian opposition, such as SOTAvision, highlighted the scale of civilian damage and the strain on air defense systems.
On the other hand, the authorities in Ukraine reported Russian attacks in response. Kharkiv Mayor Igor Terekhov stated that Russian drones hit the Novobavarsky district, leading to damage to private homes and injuries. The "Telegram Dozhd" channel reported that in the Dnipropetrovsk region, residential buildings, a church, and civilian infrastructure were hit, with reports of a number of casualties, including a pregnant woman.
The security situation remains tense, as in areas like Cheboksary, students were moved to remote learning due to the "danger of rockets and a drone attack," as reported by the city authorities. Independent channels and monitors, including the ASTRA channel, raised assessments that some of the attacks in Russia were aimed at sites of military-industrial importance, a claim that has not received official confirmation from Moscow.
