The Russian Ministry of Transport promotes free parking for two vehicles for large families

The Russian Ministry of Transport is examining a new initiative that will allow families raising four or more children to park two vehicles for free, according to several Russian Telegram channels. Currently, most regions in Russia grant an exemption from payment for only one vehicle, and the final decision-making authority on the matter rests with the regional authorities.

According to a report by Readovka, the ministry is working in cooperation with the State Duma Committee for the Protection of Families to implement these changes by June 30, 2026. The 'Pazhol N3' channel notes that this is an additional step to expand existing benefits for families.

Nina Ostanina, who heads the Committee for the Protection of Families, noted on her news channel that the government had previously opposed attempts to enact a uniform federal law on the subject due to concerns about "loss of revenue in certain regions," and therefore the Ministry of Transport is now taking an approach of sending "letters of recommendation" to local authorities to bypass the legislative barrier.

While some channels focused on technical reporting, the 'NMSH' channel, sometimes associated with criticism of the establishment, responded to the benefit with cynicism: "People without children, who will be left without parking, are very grateful." This channel highlighted the social tension that could be created as a result of prioritizing one sector over another in the crowded urban public space.
