A tense day in the Persian Gulf with the breaking of the Iranian blockade by the United States Navy, while in Israel the political system is stormy over Smotrich's remarks, the Draft Law and the Netanyahu trial, in the shadow of Lag BaOmer celebrations across the country.
Dramatic Escalation in the Persian Gulf
Peak tension was recorded today (May 5, 2026) in the Persian Gulf. Two US Navy destroyers, alongside commercial ships of the 'Maersk' company, managed to cross the Strait of Hormuz and break the Iranian blockade under fire and aerial cover. In Iran, the reports were denied, but at the same time they launched an extensive wave of attacks against the United Arab Emirates, which included hundreds of missiles and UAVs since the beginning of the fighting. Against the background of the escalation, an unprecedented movement of American fighter and refueling aircraft was recorded in the Middle East.
The conflict is also spilling over into the political sphere in Iran, where great anger was reported from President Pezeshkian over the actions of the Revolutionary Guards that were carried out without his approval. In the United States, fears of an all-out war are growing, as former President Donald Trump and Senator Lindsey Graham call to arm the Iranian people so that they will act against the regime. At the same time, Iraq is offering massive discounts on oil due to the risk of sailing in the region.
Security Arena in Israel
- The Northern Front: The IDF Spokesperson in Arabic issued an urgent evacuation order to the residents of the villages of Jibchit and Srifa in southern Lebanon ahead of military activity. At the same time, mortar shells were fired at IDF forces in the area, with no casualties.
- The Gaza Strip: The Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories reported that about 44,000 Gazans have already left the Strip for third countries. On the other hand, a storm in the IDF with the filing of indictments against officers and soldiers who smuggled cigarettes and goods into Gaza in exchange for millions of shekels.

- Smotrich Storm: The Minister of Finance absorbed harsh condemnations from all ends of the political spectrum after he claimed that sitting in a government with Mansour Abbas is "worse than the October 7 massacre," which he called a "tactical failure."
