A complex medical incident ended successfully at Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital, after a two-year-old toddler required emergency surgery following the ingestion of a foreign object. According to reports in Israel News IL and The Hot News, the child ate chocolate that contained a whole nut, without his parents noticing, which led to an obstruction of the esophagus and immediate life-threatening danger.

As detailed extensively in The Hot News, the parents turned to the emergency room after the toddler began vomiting and choking. At first, there was concern that it was a medical complication related to a past event in which the toddler had swallowed a caustic substance, but comprehensive tests ruled this out. Dr. Zeev Davidovits, a pediatric gastroenterology expert at Hadassah, explained that after it became clear the toddler had eaten layered chocolate with a nut inside, the picture became clear: "Extracting a nut from the esophagus is a complex task and it is very urgent."

The medical team, which included Dr. Davidovits, Dr. Haitham Masar, and Dr. Baltus Gubti, acted quickly in the operating room to extract the nut without causing damage to the delicate esophageal tissues. The surgery was successful and the toddler is out of danger.

Following the incident, Dr. Davidovits reiterated the importance of close supervision of young children while eating, and called on parents to check food packaging carefully: "Sometimes, a small and innocent-looking product can turn into a life-threatening danger in an instant."
