[49752] Survey on 'Kyiv Digital': Trends in Ukrainian language usage among capital residents
Ukrainian language usage data in Kyiv
A new survey published on the «Kyiv Digital» app, conducted among approximately 46,000 residents of the Ukrainian capital, reveals a complex picture regarding the integration of the language in the public and private spheres.
According to data published across various channels, including Всевидящее ОКО: Україна (which maintains a distinctly pro-Ukrainian stance), 66% of respondents indicated that their level of proficiency in the Ukrainian language has significantly improved over the last four years. However, only about 32% of participants stated that they use the language regularly and exclusively.
A breakdown of language usage in various situations, as reported by channels such as Ху Київ | Україна and 💙НЕЗЛАМНІ 💛, indicates that the use of Ukrainian varies by context:
- 14% use it in state institutions.
- 13% in shops and cafes.
- 11% at the workplace.
- 9% at cultural events.
- 6% in educational institutions.
- 4% at home.
Similar reports also appeared in Київ | Times and Київ Головне, which highlight the gap between the reported improvement in language proficiency and the actual frequency of its use. UA Stream noted that the 66% figure reflects the cumulative increase in the linguistic ability of the capital's residents in recent times.
