[49546] Iran: Examining US response to Pakistani-mediated proposal to end the war
The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson announced that Tehran is examining the US response conveyed through Pakistan, while clarifying that the main focus is solely on ending the war.
Diplomatic contacts mediated by Pakistan to end the fighting
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei confirmed on Monday, May 4, 2026, that Tehran has received the United States' response to the 14-point Iranian proposal, which was conveyed through Pakistani mediation. According to 'Akhbar-e Fouri' reports, the response is currently under review, but Iranian officials have emphasized that at this stage, the discussions are focusing solely on a "complete end to the war."
In a series of statements published on Iranian Telegram channels, including کانال اخبار سپاه پاسداران 🏴, affiliated with the Revolutionary Guards, Baghaei attacked the American conduct, claiming that the US is setting "unreasonable demands" that disrupt any diplomatic process. The spokesperson emphasized that any American promise for a ceasefire or end to the war must also include its "regional representative" – referring to Israel – while again stressing that Iran does not recognize the legitimacy of the "Zionist regime" (according to the 'Akharin Khabar' channel).
At the same time, DW Persian, associated with a more critical and liberal line, reported that Baghaei dismissed media reports regarding nuclear enrichment matters, calling them "speculations." Additionally, it was reported that Iran asked Europe to adopt "more responsible" positions and called on it to stop what it termed "blind compliance" with American policy.
In addition to the establishment and Revolutionary Guards channels, it was reported that contacts continue between Iran and Oman regarding the creation of a safe mechanism for the passage of ships in the Persian Gulf, this against the backdrop of growing tensions surrounding maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz, where Iran presents itself as the "guardian of security" of the region (according to a report by 'Akharin Khabar').
