Political summit marked by economic support for Ukraine

President Volodymyr Zelensky arrived today, May 4, 2026, in Yerevan, Armenia, to participate in the European Political Community summit. According to a report by Труха⚡️Україна, Zelensky is expected to discuss the timeline for the transfer of a €90 billion European aid package with the leaders of 48 countries. The channel emphasizes that for Ukraine, these funds represent a critical component in "strengthening the state and supporting the population."

At the same time, Українська правда reports that the UK is preparing to begin formal negotiations to join this aid program. According to Новинач, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer is expected to announce the move during the summit, with the goal of "uniting efforts with the European Union to support Ukraine on the front lines," as well as creating business opportunities for British industry.

According to reports in Новини.LIVE, out of the total aid discussed, approximately €60 billion will be allocated for military procurement, while an additional €30 billion will be earmarked for budgetary support for Kyiv. The same reports noted that Ukraine will be able to use these funds to purchase defense equipment from outside EU borders as well, including in the UK and the United States.

In addition to the financial aspect, UA Stream notes that the UK is expected to announce another round of "tough sanctions" against Russia. It was also reported that as part of the negotiations, a demand was raised by the European Union for the UK to pay an annual "entry fee" of £1 billion in exchange for increased access to the European market, which represents one of the most complex developments in relations between London and Brussels since Brexit.
