[49227] Escalation of tension in the Strait of Hormuz: Security alerts and new American measures
Security tension in the Strait of Hormuz
According to reports from Al Jazeera and other media outlets, including Quds News Network and Al Araby TV, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) announced that the security threat level in the Strait of Hormuz continues to be "critical" due to ongoing military activities in the region.
The reporting bodies, including Shehab Agency, noted that the United States has established an "enhanced security zone" with the aim of supporting the movement of ships in the strait. The media outlet Asharq News further noted that this move is part of the "Freedom Project" aimed at rescuing ships stuck in the Strait of Hormuz.
As part of the new guidelines, Al Mayadeen reports that British authorities are recommending ships considering crossing the strait to "consider a route through the territorial waters of Oman." Ajel Channel added that ships are requested to coordinate in advance with the Omani authorities via maritime communication channel 16, due to the "expected traffic congestion."
These reports come against the backdrop of assessments regarding an increase in naval military presence in the region, leading to instructions from Asharq News to ship captains to increase defensive measures and vigilance in anticipation of calls on communication networks and congestion near anchorage areas.
