US clarifies: There is no formal military escort in the Strait of Hormuz
According to coordinated reports in major media outlets, the Trump administration's 'Operation Freedom' initiative in the Strait of Hormuz does not include direct military escort of merchant ships by the US Navy. As reported in the Middle East Spectator, US officials clarified to the 'Wall Street Journal' that it is a "coordinated effort by shipping and insurance companies," and not a naval escort by warships.
The plan, as published in Axios, focuses on the US Navy providing vessels with "information on safe transit routes" where there are no Iranian mines. In TabZ - Alternative Media it was noted that naval forces will remain "in the vicinity" to respond only if necessary and prevent attacks by Iranian forces, while providing guidance for safe navigation.
In reports brought by WarFront Witness, a certain degree of skepticism was expressed among European diplomats, who recall past US attempts to ensure freedom of navigation that failed. According to these officials, without active military naval escort, the security situation in the Strait of Hormuz may not change significantly.
Conversely, at Geopolitics Watch it is noted that the lack of clarity on the matter may be intentional, arguing that "American media outlets have lied and omitted details in the past to serve military field security." As of now, the US administration insists that this is a coordination cell intended to enable the flow of maritime traffic, while avoiding direct confrontation.
