[48181] The Fenerbahçe election campaign heats up: Claims of political alliances and sharp criticism
Tensions in the Fenerbahçe presidential election campaign
The election campaign at the major Turkish club Fenerbahçe is escalating. A candidate for the club's presidency, Barış Göktürk, revealed on FENERBAHÇE HABERLERİ that candidate Mehmet Ali Aydınlar approached him with a request to form an alliance and put together a joint list. Göktürk noted that the two held a three-hour meeting, during which he raised questions about Aydınlar's intentions: "I told him, if you are a candidate, tell me you are a candidate. If you are not, then you have a moral and financial debt to Fenerbahçe due to the events of July 3rd," as reported on the FENERBAHÇE HABERLERİ channel.
At the same time, Göktürk did not spare criticism of the current president, Sadettin Saran. He claimed, "Sadettin Saran will leave here as the most unsuccessful president in Fenerbahçe's history," and argued that any success of the team under his leadership would be considered merely "accidental success" (Source).
Conversely, sources close to Aydınlar are hinting at significant moves being woven behind the scenes. According to information provided by Mustafa Çevik on FENERBAHÇE HABERLERİ, it is possible that club congress member Hakan Safi will be appointed vice president if Aydınlar wins. The channel, which is identified with sympathetic coverage of the club, reports a sense of high alert surrounding these moves.
In the broader political arena, TGRT HABER reported on Fatih Erbakan's statements regarding his candidacy for the presidency of the country, an event taking place alongside the political unrest within the sports club.
