[46820] Diplomatic Crisis: US reduces forces in Germany following tensions over the war in Iran
Growing tension between Washington and Berlin against the backdrop of the campaign in Iran
The Trump administration has officially announced a significant reduction in the presence of American forces in Germany. According to the Pentagon, about 5,000 soldiers will be evacuated over the next six to twelve months. This step comes after a sharp exchange of words between President Donald Trump and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, who criticized the lack of an American exit strategy from the war in Iran.
In a series of statements at a political forum in Florida, Trump defined the claims regarding the failure of the war as "treason." The American president claimed that the Iranian military had been almost completely destroyed, including the air and naval forces, and that the US had succeeded in taking control of the Strait of Hormuz. On the other hand, opposition and other sources, such as Payam Iran, report the continued internal instability in Iran, the collapse of airlines due to fuel prices, and heavy losses suffered by the Revolutionary Guards forces.
The newspaper "Vatan-e Emrooz", which is identified with critical positions toward the West, notes that the tension also stems from the heavy economic damage caused to Germany due to the war. According to the report, Berlin views the American move as a blow to European security, while NATO is responding cautiously, with the organization's spokeswoman Alison Hart emphasizing Europe's need to "increase investments in defense" as a response to the withdrawal of American forces.
At the same time, an Axios report cited in foreign network reports estimates that the economic cost of the American siege on Iran stands at approximately $4.8 billion. While the White House claims that the war has reached its official end, Trump clarifies that the economic and military campaign to ensure Iran does not reach nuclear weapons will continue by all means at his disposal.
