[46710] Solving Cold Case Murders and Shocking Acts of Violence in Turkey
Dramatic Developments in Criminal Cases in Turkey
Law enforcement authorities in Turkey report two significant breakthroughs in serious murder cases that are resonating with the public and in the media.
Solving a Murder from the Previous Millennium
According to a report by TGRT HABER, there has been a shocking turn in the case of the disappearance of Mehmet Çetin, who vanished 11 years ago. Çetin's skull was found in an open area in Burdur, which led to the arrest of his ex-wife Derya K. and their friend Bayram A. According to another report in Haber Gündem, the suspects were remanded in custody on charges of "premeditated murder" following a covert police operation.
Investigation into the Murder of Lawyer Hatice Kocaefe
At the same time, Haber Gündem reports on a development in the investigation into the murder of lawyer Hatice Kocaefe in the town of Gürsu in the Bursa province. The incident, which also involved the wounding of her sister Elif Ç., ended with the arrest of five suspects. According to Haber Gündem, the testimony of the main suspect, Hakkı Ç., was described as "chilling" (kan dondurdu), as he claimed he had aimed his weapon at the victim's sister and hit the lawyer "by mistake."
Both cases highlight the ongoing efforts of law enforcement agencies in Turkey to solve serious crimes, even more than a decade after they were committed.
