Ukraine's national railway company reported record revenues of nearly half a billion hryvnias from the sale of scrap metal since the beginning of 2026, following government restrictions on exports.

Ukraine's national railway company, 'Ukrzaliznytsia', reported significant growth in its revenue from the sale of scrap metal during the first months of 2026. According to reports from Труха⚡️Україנה, the company earned 439.9 million hryvnias between January and April, a sum exceeding its total revenue from this activity throughout the entire year of 2025.
Ukrainian Member of Parliament, Dmytro Kysylevskyi, quoted in UA Stream, noted that this is a result of "the government's efforts to impose order on the scrap market." According to him, the primary factors for this success are the imposition of a "zero quota on scrap exports," which eliminated market speculation, alongside increased transparency in tenders and a return to transporting cargo by rail.
