Drama in the religious establishment: The Chief Rabbinate Council announced today, July 2, 2026, that it does not approve granting a kashrut license to the "Tzohar" organization. The decision was made after the outgoing CEO, Yehuda Cohen, granted an independent approval to the organization contrary to the position of the Council and the Chief Rabbis.

According to Field News on Telegram, the Council published an official letter clarifying that "the Council does not approve at this stage granting a license to Tzohar." Concurrently, ynet news reported that the Council emphasized that the move was made without the knowledge or approval of its members, and that the license granted by the CEO is revoked immediately.

Criticism of the decision-making process in the institution has surfaced on social media. As noted on the Jokes and Just Cool Things channel, Cohen's move, who is scheduled to finish his role in about two weeks, was carried out in complete opposition to the opinion of the Chief Rabbis and the Rabbinate Council.
