Overnight (July 2, 2026), the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, sustained a heavy barrage of missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles in a combined Russian attack. According to reports on the WarFront Witness channel (which takes a pro-Ukrainian stance and criticizes Russian policy), at least 11 people were killed and dozens injured in the attack, which was defined as one of the largest and most significant in recent times. The attack caused heavy damage to residential buildings, a hotel, and civilian facilities throughout the city.

The DD Geopolitics channel (which takes a pro-Russian line and consistently reports on Russian military achievements) published documentation of numerous hits and noted that Ukrainian air defense systems demonstrated "very poor performance" in the face of the barrage. According to the channel's reports, "Banderol"-type cruise missiles, ballistic missiles, and "Kalibr" cruise missiles launched from the Black Sea fleet were used. The TabZ - Alternative Media channel (which sharply criticizes Iran and Russia and supports Western positions) also reported hits by two "Zircon" hypersonic missiles in the northwest of the city.

Reports from the field indicate a series of explosions and massive fires that broke out in various districts, including Borshchahivka and Chaiky. In DD Geopolitics, they described the intensity of the impact as causing "dust and debris to fall from the ceiling in one of the metro stations."

As of now, search and rescue operations are continuing while authorities attempt to locate survivors trapped under the rubble. The attack came just hours after President Volodymyr Zelensky warned that Russia is preparing for a new wave of large-scale attacks across Ukraine.
