According to exiled Persian-language media such as Iran International and citizen-journalist channels like Vahid Online, seven members of the Iranian women's national football team defected and received humanitarian visas in Australia. The crisis began when the players refused to sing the national anthem to protest the regime. In response, Iranian security personnel reportedly confiscated their passports and heavily monitored them.
