Politics and Knesset: On the Way to Elections and the Draft Law Storm
- Dissolution of the Knesset: The Knesset plenum approved in a preliminary reading with a majority of 110 supporters and no opponents the bill for the dissolution of the 25th Knesset. The move was advanced in unusual cooperation between the coalition, the opposition, and the Haredi factions, based on the assessment that elections will be held in October 2026.
- The Draft Law and the Reservists' Protest: Cabinet Secretary Yossi Fuchs clarified that the government is determined to approve the draft law in its second and third readings. In a stormy discussion at the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, IDF officers warned of a severe operational shortage of thousands of combatants. At the same time, former Prime Minister Naftali Bennett returned to the Knesset in an attempt to block the law, called on Netanyahu to "release" the chair, and also sharply attacked Avigdor Lieberman. In another discussion, protesters burst in wearing shtreimels, demanding attention to reserve duty servers and the Haredi public.
- Law and Appointments: The coalition officially submitted, with 30 signatures, the candidacy of Adv. Michael Rabello (the PM's personal attorney) for the position of State Comptroller, after Prof. Daniel Hershkowitz withdrew from the race following pressure. In addition, an indictment was filed against Knesset Member Tally Gotliv for exposing the identity of a security forces personnel, and the Knesset will discuss lifting her immunity in June. At the same time, Netanyahu's testimony in his trial continues (day 88), and the Ombudsman for Complaints Against Judges sharply criticized the Supreme Court justices who made a decision regarding protests during Shabbat.
Security and War: The Front in the North, Gaza, and Iran
- The Iranian Front: An investigation in "The New York Times" revealed that the US and Israel planned at the beginning of the "Lion's Roar" war to rescue from detention and crown former Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, but he was injured in an attack and his traces vanished. At the same time, US President Donald Trump is advancing a diplomatic move vis-à-vis Tehran, a move that receives Saudi Arabia's blessing, while reports indicate that Prime Minister Netanyahu prefers extensive military action.
- Escalation in Lebanon: Col. Meir Biderman, Commander of the 401st Brigade, was severely injured by an explosive drone strike in southern Lebanon; two other officers were injured in the incident. The IDF continues with intense strikes in Tyre and Tibnin. The Lebanese Ministry of Health updated that the number of casualties in the country since the beginning of the fighting has crossed 3,000. In Israel, students in Kiryat Shmona were documented hiding under tables during Shavuot ceremonies due to alarms (some of them false alarms).
- Gaza and Judea and Samaria: The IDF revealed drone footage showing Hamas operatives using children to transfer weapons and plant explosives at the "Yellow Line" border. At the same time, the IDF expanded its strikes in the center of the Strip following evacuation warnings. In Judea and Samaria, an attempted ramming attack was thwarted at the British Police Junction (one lightly injured, two suspects arrested), and smuggling of illegal aliens and weapons was thwarted. The fear of terrorist infiltration in Nofim was lifted.
- The Confrontation Surrounding the Flotilla: A video published by National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir in which he mocks the Turkish flotilla activists arrested at the Ashdod Port sparked a diplomatic storm. Canada and Italy (whose Prime Minister demanded an explicit apology) summoned the Israeli ambassadors for a reprimand. Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar sharply attacked Ben-Gvir: "A disgraceful show, you are not the face of Israel."
