Ukrainian media networks are reporting today, June 21, 2026, on the death of Denis Opera, known by his nickname "Danchik." Opera, who became famous thanks to viral street performances in the center of Kyiv (and particularly on Khreshchatyk Street), has passed away at a young age. According to a report by UA Stream, the cause of death is acute bilateral pneumonia.
The deceased, who earned the status of a "Khreshchatyk legend" according to Times of Ukraine, was drafted into military service with the Armed Forces of Ukraine this past February. His death was confirmed by dozens of Telegram channels, including Лачен пише, Реальний Київ, and Труха⚡️Київ, which noted that he became a familiar figure thanks to humorous videos, jokes, and phrases that turned into viral memes.
The reports highlight the sharp transition of Opera from street life and creativity to military service in the shadow of the war. The channel Женьок Вещає… added that Danchik was also well-known among other blogger communities. While most channels reported the event with a tone of mourning and appreciation, the Реальна Війна channel, identified with a distinct pro-Ukrainian line, documented the event as part of a series of losses occurring since the beginning of the widespread mobilization in February.
