A deputy in the Kyiv City Council is demanding an acceleration in the transfer of funds to the army, after a senior municipal official hinted that the budget would only be transferred in September.
Tension in the Kyiv City Council Regarding Military Funding
According to reports on the Telegram channels Реальний Київ | Украина, Київ Оперативний | Kyiv Operative ✙, and Ху Київ | Україна, a sharp confrontation has broken out in the Kyiv City Council regarding the timelines for transferring budgets to the Armed Forces of Ukraine (ZSU).
Council member Dmytro Bilotserkovets reported on his Facebook page that during the council meeting, the director of the Department of Finance, Rafik, did not provide clear answers regarding the timing of the fund transfer. According to the report in Реальний Київ, Rafik noted that the funds might only be allocated in September, which sparked Bilotserkovets's anger.
Following the lack of clarity, Bilotserkovets turned to Mayor Vitali Klitschko with a request to issue a protocol instruction to the professional staff to accelerate the processes. "I am forced to ask the mayor to give a protocol instruction to the official to do his job faster," stated Bilotserkovets, emphasizing that "funding the ZSU is the top priority."
The issue continues to resonate among local media in Kyiv, with Bilotserkovets even threatening organizational measures: according to him, he will initiate a vote of no confidence against Rafik if Klitschko's instruction is not carried out as soon as possible. As of today, the issue remains at the center of public discourse in the city in the shadow of the ongoing war.
