[69131] Escalation in Russian Attacks: Concerns Over Radioactivity and Use of Drone Evasion Technologies
Security tensions and changes in Russian attack tactics
Over the past 24 hours, security officials in Ukraine have discussed a series of alarming developments on the front lines. According to a report by ТСН новини / ТСН.ua, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) identified abnormal radiation levels in fragments of a UAV and an R-60 missile that fell in the Chernihiv region. However, Yurii Ihnat, head of the Air Force communications department, reassured the public and noted that the radiation originates from depleted uranium components that were present in the old Soviet missile, rather than a new nuclear weapon.
At the same time, the Ukrainian Air Force is dealing with new tactics from the Russian side. According to Ihnat on Цензор.НЕТ, the use of "Shaheds" has become more complex to intercept, as the drones demonstrate advanced maneuvering capabilities and sensors that allow them to hide in clouds and evade F-16 fighter jets and helicopters. Ihnat noted that the attacks in the Zakarpattia region, which had previously been far from the fighting, may have a "demonstrative nature", linking this to political changes in neighboring Hungary.
On the ground, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported an especially busy 24 hours, which included 233 combat engagements. According to the data, the Russians carried out 98 airstrikes with over 300 guided bombs, alongside the use of 8,902 kamikaze drones. Ukrainian forces recorded successes in repelling multiple attacks on the Pokrovsk and Kostiantynivka axes, while inflicting significant losses on the Russian side, estimated at 910 soldiers and 54 artillery systems over the past 24 hours.
