On the night between May 15 and 16, 2026, the strategic chemical plant "Nevinnomyssky Azot" located in Stavropol, Russia, was attacked. According to reports from Ukrainian Telegram channels, including ЦАПЛІЄНКО_UKRAINE FIGHTS and Оперативний ЗСУ, this is a facility essential to the Russian war effort, producing up to 1.4 million tons of saltpeter and over a million tons of ammonia annually, which are used for the production of explosives and ammunition.
According to a report by Цензор.НЕТ, the regional governor confirmed the attack after local residents reported a series of explosions at the industrial site. The Мілітарний channel noted that the attack occurred shortly after a drone alert was announced in the area, with witnesses quoted in channels such as Реальна Війна claiming that Russian air defense systems did not respond at all: "Air defense is not working at all. Not a single shot was fired."
At the same time, hromadske reported that according to Astra data, this is at least the sixth attack on this plant since the start of the war. The Russian Ministry of Defense, on the other hand, issued an official statement claiming it intercepted 138 Ukrainian drones during the night.
In a separate incident in Naberezhnye Chelny, Tatarstan, a large-scale fire was reported in warehouses. However, Ukrainian sources such as STERNENKO and Тарас Григорович повідомляє emphasized that the fire in Tatarstan is not related to the drone attack and occurred under different circumstances.
