Ukraine removes travel restrictions for women
The Ukrainian government announced on May 15, 2026, a sweeping abolition of restrictions on women leaving the country. As reported by Deputy Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko, the decision applies to all women without exception, thereby ending the policy imposed in January 2023 which restricted the movement of female civil servants and public officials.
According to Hromadske, the previous restrictions were imposed following a decision by the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine (RNBO) headed by Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and prevented women in public positions from leaving the country's borders except for work purposes. Now, as Svyrydenko noted, women will be able to travel abroad regardless of their status in the government system, local authorities, the judiciary, or state-owned enterprises.
