On May 12, 2026, Ukrainians in major cities around the world took to the streets in protest against the Russian use of Victory Day ceremonies. According to the Telegram channel Труха⚡️Україна, the protesters held displays under the title "Immortal Regiment" (Sermtni Polk), designed to expose the figures of Russian war criminals responsible for murder, torture, and the kidnapping of children.
The participants in the protest claimed that Russia is manipulating historical memory to justify the continuation of the war. As reported in PEKHNO🇺🇦, the events took place in 15 different countries, including Germany, Italy, Canada, Japan, and France. The protesters displayed portraits of Russian soldiers and commanders involved in crimes against humanity, under the message: "This is a memorial day, but they are dancing Kalinka-Malinka on the grave".
According to PEKHNO🇺🇦, which is identified with a clearly pro-Ukrainian stance, Moscow uses the May 9 events as a "tool for hybrid influence and legitimization of the war." These sources emphasize that the activity was intended to counter Russian propaganda and remind the international community of the reality on the ground, since, as they claim, "the aggressor does not want the world to know the truth about the war criminals."
The activists called on the public to continue and spread information about the war crimes on social media, using a hashtag that emphasizes the true identity of the Russian soldiers whose deeds are documented by Ukraine.
