A serious scandal has been uncovered in the Zakarpattia region of Ukraine, where a local post office manager used funds intended for the pension allowances of local residents to finance gambling on online casino sites. According to reports, Times of Ukraine note that the woman lost a cumulative amount of approximately 170,000 hryvnias.

As part of the legal proceedings, the defendant pleaded guilty and claimed that she tried to "recover her losses," an action referred to by the Telegram channel 'Юрист пише…' as a serious problem of gambling addiction (ludomania). The channel 'Букви. Війна. Україна' added that the defendant returned the damages in full, which led the court to settle for a two-year suspended prison sentence (probation period), a fine of 6,800 hryvnias, and a ban on holding positions involving material responsibility for two years.

The case sparked broad media coverage on Ukrainian social networks, as channels such as Україна Online and Інформаційний фронт highlighted the ease with which public funds were left exposed to gambling. In 'Ху Київ | Україנה', it was noted that the case reflects the spread of the phenomenon of gambling addiction in the country, an issue that has been raised in several media outlets as a worrying trend.
