[55647] Efforts to rehabilitate and improve infrastructure on Ukrainian roads ahead of summer

The Ukrainian government has set an ambitious target to complete routine maintenance work on all of the country's roads by June 1st. As reported by Бізнес Цензор and UA Stream, Deputy Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko announced that this involves the rehabilitation of approximately 10 million square meters of roads. Svyrydenko emphasized that "logistics, security, and evacuation routes are a top priority," and noted that the government will allocate an additional 3.5 billion hryvnias for local infrastructure, as also reported in Ху Київ +.

On the ground, work is proceeding at full speed. The Kyiv Regional Military Administration and the account of Mykola Kalashnyk noted that in the last month alone, over 100,000 square meters of potholes on roads in the Kyiv region were addressed. Simultaneously, in the capital itself, Київ Оперативний reports that urgent repairs are being carried out on the right lane of the Paton Bridge due to defects in the bridge joints, which are expected to be completed by May 14th.

Meanwhile, the Kyiv City Administration is continuing its technical efficiency efforts. As published on the KMDA – Official Channel, the city is upgrading its signage system through independent production at the "Traffic Organization Center." The municipality notes that there are approximately 80,000 signs placed in the city, which are replaced frequently due to "traffic loads, weather conditions, and cases of vandalism."

Alongside the rehabilitation efforts, corruption scandals from the past are being uncovered. The Мій Харків channel reports on suspicions against a former senior official at the Kharkiv regional road service. It is alleged that due to contracts inflated in 2019 for the repair of the R-51 state road, the state treasury suffered damages of over 6.1 million hryvnias due to the use of illegal procurement methods and inflated material prices.
