[54587] Attempt to smuggle postcards featuring Adolf Hitler thwarted at the Chop border crossing
Ukrainian customs authorities seized five historical postcards from the 1930s featuring the portrait of Adolf Hitler, which a woman from Kyiv attempted to smuggle into Germany by train.
Smuggling incident at Transcarpathian Customs
During a border inspection conducted on May 9th at the "Chop-Prague" train station, Transcarpathian customs authorities foiled an attempt to smuggle historical items. According to reports from local media, a 53-year-old woman from Kyiv attempted to take five postcards dating back to the 1930s out of the country, which bore the portrait of Adolf Hitler.
The postcards, which were found inside a sealed envelope in the woman's suitcase, were confiscated by law enforcement officials. As noted in ТСН новини, the woman did not possess a "Certificate of the right to export" (Свідоцтво на право вивезення), a document required under Ukrainian law for printed works produced before 1945.
In reports that appeared on channels such as Труха⚡️Київ and Киевский Движ, it was emphasized that this is an administrative offense that could lead to a monetary fine. The findings were transferred for expert examination to determine whether the postcards hold historical or cultural value that requires special handling, as noted in the UA Stream reports.
Additionally, channels such as Всевидящее ОКО: Україна (which maintains a distinct pro-Ukrainian stance and supports the Zelensky administration) emphasized the need to comply with laws regarding the export of antique printed materials. As of now, the case remains under legal and administrative investigation by the customs authorities.
