Security authorities in Ukraine have reported a series of arrests of suspects involved in the arson of military vehicles, corruption in security institutions, and severe violence within military units.
Enforcement wave in Ukraine: arrests for arson and corruption
Security authorities in Ukraine report a series of severe criminal and security incidents that have occurred across the country. At the center of the reports is a counter-activity operation by the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), which arrested a suspect in Kharkiv for carrying out a series of arsons against military vehicles. According to the SBU and the Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor's Office, the suspect, a 40-year-old unemployed man, was operated by Russian intelligence agents via Telegram and carried out the arson of two military off-road vehicles that were in the city for repairs. The extent of the damage is estimated at half a million hryvnias.
At the same time, media outlets in Kyiv reported another affair in which a 21-year-old man is accused of setting fire to a bank branch. According to Kyiv | Times and Espreso TV, the suspect was lured by unidentified individuals posing as law enforcement officers, claiming that his girlfriend was cooperating with Russia, and that he must commit the act to "avoid trouble."
In the field of internal corruption, Цензор.НЕТ (known for a consistent line critical of Russia and supportive of the Zelensky administration) reported the arrest of an SBU employee for taking a bribe of $34,000. The sum was given in exchange for providing an "exemption" from conscription through the fictitious employment of people in commercial companies.
Meanwhile, Українська правда reports an unusual incident of violence within a military unit, in which a junior soldier brutally attacked a fighter from the 155th Brigade. According to the investigation, the attacker led a "regime of fear" in the unit, including tying up the victim and forcing other soldiers to document the attack on a phone. The suspect fled the unit and was subsequently arrested by the State Bureau of Investigation (DBR).
