Russian forces attacked the 'Kernel' terminal in the port of Chornomorsk, causing a suspension of operations at the site but with no impact on overall exports.
Russian attack on Ukrainian export infrastructure
On May 6, 2026, Ukrainian Telegram channels Труха⚡️Україна and ЦАПЛІЄНКО_UKRAINE FIGHTS reported a Russian drone attack that struck the 'Kernel' company terminal in the port city of Chornomorsk. This is one of the most important strategic hubs for exporting Ukrainian sunflower oil to international markets, with the company responsible for about 10% of global exports of the product.
According to Труха⚡️Україна, known for its staunch pro-Ukrainian stance, storage tanks were destroyed as a result of the direct hits and over 1,100 tons of oil leaked. Company officials noted that the leak was contained and did not reach the sea, but operations at the terminal were suspended due to damage to equipment, offices, and four railway cars. ЦАПЛІЄНКО_UKRAINE FIGHTS confirmed the details of the attack and emphasized the importance of the terminal to the Ukrainian economy.
Despite the damage, it was reported in Труха⚡️Україна that the 'Kernel' company stated it is continuing exports through partner terminals in the ports of Odesa and on the Danube River, so the country's foreign currency revenues are not expected to be affected in the immediate term. Both channels presented the incident as part of Russia's efforts to strike vital Ukrainian economic infrastructure using attack drones.
