In a series of reports published on May 5, 2026, unusual claims were made by academic figures in Ukraine regarding the safety of COVID-19 vaccines. Lyubov Kotsyubil, a doctor and lecturer in microbiology and infectious diseases, claimed that "cancer and oncology are caused by the COVID vaccine, and there are already such cases." This claim echoed across several Telegram channels, including Україна Online: Новини | Політика, Львівич | Новини, and Батальйон «Монако».
Alongside these claims, the channels point to a series of global legal and medical developments that raise questions about vaccine safety. According to the reports, as of the beginning of May 2026, about 15.7 million Ukrainians have received the vaccine. The channel Україна Online as well as the channel Україна⚡️Новини⚡️Війна note that AstraZeneca admitted in court that its vaccine could, in rare cases, cause TTS (thrombosis with thrombocytopenia syndrome).
In addition, sources report that Pfizer is facing accusations in the United States of concealing medical risks, including myocarditis and complications during pregnancy. In Germany, according to reports, hundreds of lawsuits by citizens are being heard in courts, demanding compensation for health damage, such as vision loss and heart diseases attributed by them to receiving the vaccine.
It should be noted that the reporting sources are popular Telegram channels in Ukraine, which often adopt a critical line toward the medical establishment and take controversial positions on public health issues. Kotsyubil's words represent an unusual minority position, as international medical bodies have continued to affirm the safety of approved vaccines.
