A series of air alerts was activated across Ukraine overnight due to ballistic missile and UAV threats, with explosions heard in the capital and its surroundings.
A tense night in Ukraine: missile and UAV alerts
During the night of May 5, 2026, Kyiv and other regions in Ukraine experienced a series of prolonged air alerts. According to Труха⚡️Україна, the alarms were initially activated due to a ballistic missile threat from the direction of the Voronezh region, and subsequently due to UAV incursions into the capital region. The channel Реальний Київ reported explosions heard within Kyiv and its suburbs.
Official authorities, via КМДА – офіційний канал, called on residents to immediately go down to shelters and distributed protection maps to the public. Reports indicated a challenging security reality, as 24 Канал noted that echoes of explosions were heard in the capital while UAV attacks were underway.
At the same time, reports from Фокус indicated that the threat was not limited to Kyiv alone. This channel noted that explosions were also heard in the Cherkasy region as well as in the Kharkiv area. Concurrently, air defense forces worked under heavy load to intercept the hostile targets.
Around 05:16, local Telegram channels, including КМДА and Мій Київ, announced the cancellation of the air emergency state in the capital. Although quiet has returned to the capital, the nightly incidents highlight the continuation of Russia's intensive air campaign against Ukrainian infrastructure and population centers.
