Ukraine Bows Its Head: A Wave of Notifications Regarding Fallen Soldiers
On May 2, 2026, the Lviv Regional State Administration (Lviv OVA) published a difficult list of seven soldiers from the Lviv region who lost their lives. The military administration emphasized that this was in "defense of the homeland" and called on residents to participate in a national moment of silence in memory of the fallen. Among the casualties identified recently following DNA tests were Andriy Praymak, who had been considered missing since March 2025, as well as other soldiers who fell in battles in the Donetsk region.
At the same time, Suspilne Dnipro, a public media channel covering the Dnipropetrovsk region, reported the deaths of two additional soldiers from their area: Yegor Vasilenko (36) and Mykola Polyakov (49). Both soldiers gave their lives in fierce battles, with the channel highlighting the heavy price being paid by the region's communities.
In supplementary reports from the channel UA Stream, the deaths of additional soldiers from the Volyn and Kyiv regions were confirmed. These include soldiers Volodymyr Zabrodotsky, Andriy Vasyura, and Volodymyr Melnychuk from the area surrounding the capital city, Kyiv. UA Stream, which is associated with ongoing reports on the status of the fighting, emphasized that the information about the fallen soldiers arrived alongside the local designation "On the Shield" (upon the shield), which is used to describe combat casualties.
The Lviv regional administrator noted that many of the fallen had prior combat experience, such as Volodymyr Maksymyk, who was decorated with three medals from the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine for distinguished service over the years and was killed on April 27. The sequence of announcements reflects the ongoing intensity of the fighting on the Donbas front and other sectors throughout the month of April and the beginning of May 2026.
