A night of airstrikes and a technological arms race
During the night of April 30, Russia launched a widespread aerial attack on Ukraine. According to data from the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, one "Iskander-M" ballistic missile and 206 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) were launched, including "Shahed," "Gerbera," and "Italmas" models. Ukraine's air defense systems managed to intercept or neutralize 172 of the hostile craft.
Despite defense efforts, hits from the missile and 32 UAVs were reported in 22 different locations across the country, including damage to civilian infrastructure in Odesa, where 18 people were injured, according to Українська правда. hromadske noted that interception debris fell at 9 additional sites, leading to significant destruction in some places.
Alongside defense, Ukraine is advancing its offensive capabilities. Serhii "Flash" Beskrestnov, an advisor to the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense, stated that the Ukrainian army is set to be equipped with new types of FPV drones. According to Цензор.НЕТ, the goal is to "cover the 100-150 kilometer zone from the borders with strike drones," a step expected to significantly complicate Russian operations. REITERS 🇺🇦 emphasized that the new developments are part of a comprehensive effort to increase pressure on the enemy's military rear.
In the ground combat theater, Фокус reports on growing concern in Kharkiv, where according to regional governor Oleh Syniehubov, Russia is testing new areas in preparation for potential future attacks. Conversely, Ukrainian military units are reporting tactical successes; for example, the Харківський напрямок channel reports the destruction of enemy artillery on the front lines using drones.
