[44644] Bloomberg Report: North Korea's nuclear capabilities threaten US defense systems
New reports indicate that North Korea has developed missile capabilities capable of overcoming United States air defense systems, and may become a significant nuclear power in the coming years.
Growing nuclear threat: North Korea vs. US defense systems
According to a Bloomberg report cited in Zone AP, North Korea has reached a level of armament that allows it to "breach US air defense systems" built over decades. The report highlights that South Korean President Lee Jae-myung estimated as early as late January that Pyongyang possesses the capacity to produce materials for building up to 20 nuclear warheads per year.
According to an analysis by Zone AP, which is characterized by a critical stance toward various geopolitical actors worldwide, the current pace of buildup may lead North Korea to a situation where its nuclear arsenal will, within a decade, exceed that of countries like Israel, Pakistan, and the United Kingdom, and even compete with the capabilities of France.
In addition, UA Stream cites Bloomberg data and states that "North Korea is already capable of breaching US missile defense", emphasizing that in the short term, it is capable of guaranteed bombing of Washington's allies in the Asia region.
Experts point out that the American GMD system, which consists of 44 interceptors, may not be sufficient against a combined attack of dozens of "Hwasong" intercontinental ballistic missiles. According to reports, the system requires the launch of two interceptors for each target, which makes it vulnerable in the event of a large-scale missile barrage.
