During June 23, 2026, two serious corruption scandals were exposed in local authorities in Turkey, leading to the arrest of dozens of officials and civil servants. The events mark a reputational blow for the Republican People's Party (CHP), which manages the involved authorities.
According to a report by Haber Gündem, a media outlet identified with general current affairs coverage, the main affair took place in the Adalar municipality. As part of a comprehensive bribery investigation that included raids in 4 different districts, 35 suspects were arrested, including Mayor Ali Ercan Akpolat. According to Haber Gündem, out of 42 detainees in total, 39 were brought before a judge, with 35 of them sent to actual detention, while others were released under legal restrictions.
At the same time, the news agency [İLKHA [İlke Haber Ajansı]](https://t.me/ilkehaberajansi), known for its conservative line, reported on a significant development in the Silifke municipality. According to İLKHA, the authorities completed an investigation procedure regarding suspicions of corruption that led to the arrest of 8 additional suspects linked to the municipality's activities.
Both affairs highlight the growing pressure on elected officials from the CHP party across Turkey, as suspicions of administrative corruption and bribery are under the magnifying glass of the law enforcement system. As of now, the investigations into these cases are ongoing.
