On June 1, 2026, it was reported that the collection of signatures required for convening an "extraordinary convention" (Olağanüstü Kurultay) in the CHP party in Turkey had been completed. The move follows the call of the party chairman, Özgür Özel, after a Central Executive Board (MYK) meeting held at the Grand National Assembly, as reported in Sondakika Haber Gündem.
According to reports in gdh and GündemX, as of 16:00, the required majority among party delegates had been achieved. On the other hand, the channel A Haber - which is identified with critical positions toward the opposition - noted that 111 members of parliament identified with Özel's camp issued a joint statement demanding the convention be held on July 12.
In parallel with the general political developments, party officials continue to prepare logistically. Adam Koz, a member of the executive committee, clarified in Fenerbahçe Ruhu that entry into the complex where the convention will be held will be limited exclusively to authorized persons, in order to ensure order during the heated discussions.
