According to official reports published on GündemX and several other news sources such as Son Dakika Haberler Gündem, a decision was published this morning in the "Official Gazette" (Resmi Gazete) ordering the closure of Istanbul Bilgi University and the revocation of its operating license.
Sputnik Türkiye, a source identified with coverage close to the Russian government's positions, reports that the decision was made under Article 11 added to the Higher Education Law numbered 2547. According to the source, the step comes after a "trustee (kayyum) was appointed to the founding foundation," a move indicating government intervention in the management of the institution.
As part of the measures taken following the closure, it was decided that the students remaining at the institution would not be abandoned. According to the report in Son Dakika Haberler Türkiye, Istanbul Bilgi University students "will continue their studies at Mimar Sinan University."
As of this hour, official sources in Turkey have yet to detail the specific reasons that led to the appointment of the trustee and the final closure, but the decision is being implemented immediately according to the various sources that reported on the event throughout May 22, 2026.
