[67000] Strategic Cooperation: Aselsan and Türk Telekom to develop a national smartphone in Turkey
A step towards technological independence: Turkey is developing a national smartphone
In a significant move to strengthen Turkey's technological sovereignty, the giants Aselsan and Türk Telekom have announced the establishment of a joint venture for the development and production of a local ("Yerli ve milli") smartphone.
According to the report on TRT Haber, the move is primarily intended to "reduce external dependence in the field of communications." Media outlets associated with the mainstream and the defense industry in Turkey, such as Türk Savunma Sanayi Haberleri, confirmed that the parties have signed an official agreement to establish the infrastructure for producing national end-user devices.
The channel Ekonomi Haberleri 🇹🇷 noted that the strategic cooperation constitutes another pillar in Ankara's efforts to lead the local technology industry, with Aselsan—known as the country's central technological-security arm—providing the technical expertise alongside Türk Telekom's communication infrastructure.
As of now, technical details regarding the device's specifications or its launch date have not yet been released, but the initiative reflects a broad national policy of promoting "local and national" products in all areas of life and technology in Turkey.
