Violent attack in Beyoğlu: Galatasaray star Lucas Torreira was punched

Galatasaray football team star, Lucas Torreira, was attacked this past Monday in the Beyoğlu district of Istanbul. According to reports on GALATASARAY BAŞAKŞEHİR CANLI, the player received a blow to the face area, which left him with minor cuts near his eye and eyebrow, as also reported by Sputnik Türkiye.

The local police arrested the suspect of the attack, identified as Yusuf Yıldırım. A Haber reported that the suspect attempted to flee the scene in a taxi but was quickly caught by police forces. It was also stated that the attacker has a prior criminal record for offenses of "intentional infliction of injury."

Regarding the motive for the attack, various sources point to a personal background. According to a report by Çağdaş Evren cited on GALATASARAY BAŞAKŞEHİR CANLI, the suspect claimed during his interrogation that the attack occurred due to romantic jealousy. Furthermore, it was revealed that there is a long-standing dispute between the two; Qalatasaray Azərbaycan noted that Torreira had already filed a complaint against the suspect in the past, and a restraining order had even been issued against him for 45 days a few months ago.

In an additional report from Qalatasaray Azərbaycan, further details emerged stating that Torreira's personal driver, identified as E.S., was also involved in the altercation when he tried to separate the parties and punched the attacker in return. Law enforcement agencies are continuing the full investigation of the incident following the formal complaint filed by the player.
