Tourism season in Bodrum: Prices surging and pricing in Euros
Ahead of the start of the summer season in Turkey, local media are reporting a significant price hike in the luxury resort city of Bodrum, as local business owners are taking exceptional measures to cope with the economic situation.
According to a report by TGRT HABER, the city is entering a new era where menus at restaurants and resorts are being set in "Euros". The news outlet cites messages clarifying that "those who do not have Euros, should not come" (Eurosu olmayan gelmesin), which indicates a shift in local pricing strategy aimed at a wealthy clientele.
At the same time, the Haber Gündem channel reports that the upcoming summer season will "burn the pockets" of tourists, with prices described as "staggering". According to the report, entrance fees to luxury beaches and hotels are now pegged to the European currency, with the price for a single night's stay in some hotels reaching up to 100,000 Turkish Lira.
Reports from both sources point to a clear trend of sharp price increases and the use of foreign currency as a tool to protect against local inflation, a step that could make things significantly harder for local tourists who use only the Turkish Lira.
