[52240] 'Controversial CHP Congress' trial postponed to July 1
Update: Another postponement in the CHP congress trial
During the day (May 6, 2026), it was reported in the media in Turkey that the legal hearings regarding the 'controversial CHP congress' have been postponed. According to reports, the court decided to move the hearing date to July 1 at 10:00 AM, to allow for the 'completion of missing procedures' in the case.
A Haber, a media outlet known for its pro-government editorial line and critical stance toward the opposition, defined the proceeding as the "CHP congress scandal", highlighting the controversial aspect of the party gathering. Along the same line, İLKHA, a news agency with religious-conservative affiliations, noted that it is a "controversial congress trial" that was postponed due to the court's requirements.
Similar reports also appeared in TGRT HABER, which focused on an 'interim decision' reached in the proceeding, and Haber Gündem, which confirmed that the hearing was postponed to July 1 with the goal of completing the investigation materials and documentation necessary for the continuation of the trial.
The trial follows allegations raised against internal procedures in the Republican People's Party (CHP), and constitutes part of a broad media campaign by pro-government media bodies seeking to cast doubt on the legitimacy of the congress in question.
