The struggle to return military hospitals to the Turkish Armed Forces

The issue of military hospitals in Turkey has returned to the headlines following statements by MHP party chairman, Devlet Bahçeli (gdh), who called for returning the hospitals to military control. Bahçeli emphasized that Turkey is the only NATO country without an independent military hospital system, noting that it is a "matter of vital importance."

At the same time, a stormy political debate has developed in parliament. According to the Son Dakika Haberleri channel, a bill by the İYİ Party to reopen the facilities was rejected by the ruling party (AKP). Surprisingly, Bahçeli's faction (MHP) chose not to participate in the vote, despite the party leader's public statements that "military hospitals are a debt to our soldiers."

The Turkish Ministry of Defense, in publications shared by TÜRK SAVUNMA SANAYİ and Askeri Operasyon Haberleri, announced in response that "in accordance with the President's directives, work continues on updating the military healthcare system" to best meet the needs of the armed forces.

Additionally, the Gündem Analiz channel reported that the Ministry of Defense carried out a routine update to the list of controlled materials for 2026, which includes weaponry and military technologies. The ministry emphasized that this is a procedural process based on technological and international needs, and it should not be interpreted as a change in overall security policy.
